CREATIVE WRITING CONNECTIONS
Choice 2: CopyCat Poetry: Analyze the style and structure of a poem and recreate it based on your life experiences!
1. Read and re-read the poem titled "What I Like and Don't Like" by Philip Schultz.
2. What do you notice about the poem?
- What words are repeated?
-What does the author like and dislike?
-What sticks out to you?
3. Copy the structure and style of the poem & write your own version based on the things you like and don't like.
Choice 3: Write a Fanfiction ("fanfic"):
The term "fanfic" refers to stories of varying lengths, poems, songs, or other written works that are created by fans of an original work, such as a music or book These pieces usually utilize characters and settings from the original work, though they can often incorporate original characters and settings, too.
You could write a letter to a character from the perspective of another. You could write an alternate ending. You could write an additional chapter that doesn't currently exist. You could write a song, poem, or epilogue based on some aspect of the story. The possibilities are endless.
Feel free to start an account with wattpad or fanfiction.net if you'd like to share your work with a broader audience. These are public sites, and you should use proper caution. Please use search filters (K-G, PG, etc.) to ensure you are only searching school appropriate genres.
