Collins Writing Program
Throughout the school year, we will be using the Collins Writing Program in class. We will engage in a variety of writing tasks that will be referred to as Type 1, Type 2, Type 3, Type 4, or Type 5 writing.
Type 1: To capture ideas, we will use our readers/ writers notebooks to respond to prompts, free write, brainstorm, react to reading, etc. Type 1 writing is used explore thoughts; there are no wrong answers. Type 2: These responses will show me how well you know about a topic. There is a correct answer to the prompt, and you will be assessed on the content of your response. Grammar and spelling are not assessed. Types 3 & 4: Writing is expanded beyond Type 1 into a more detailed and precise piece of writing. Revision and peer editing are likely part of the process. You will be assessed using FCAs (Focus Correction Areas) Type 5: Type 3 & 4 writing is further revised and refined into publishable quality, that is, work that is as free as possible from errors. |
